Department of Construction Engineering and Management Faculty Positions

The School of Engineering at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile invites applications to four full-time faculty positions in the areas of Road Infrastructure, Sustainable Construction, Construction Management and Construction Technologies and Systems at the Department of Construction Engineering and Management.

The candidates will join other full-time faculty and several part-time appointments in Construction Engineering and Management, with research interests in material engineering, construction management, infrastructure and construction technologies. The faculty position in Construction Technologies and Systems will hold a shared appointment with the School of Civil Construction at this University.

Duties: Each successful applicant’s duties will include teaching (at undergraduate and graduate levels), conducting research, providing external services and carrying out administrative tasks. Emphasis will be given to the contribution and interest in research that candidates can offer in one of the following fields:

1.    Road Infrastructure:

  • Asphalt technology
  • Structural design and analysis of pavements
  • Safety, resilience and sustainability of roads and infrastructure
  • Geometric Design of Roads and Highways

 2.   Sustainable Construction:

  • Sustanaible management and evaluation of projects.
  • Incorporation of social, technical, environmental and economic impacts on the decisions to build construction projects.
  • Building materials with low environmental impact.
  • Life-cycle assessment of projects.
  • Productivity and quality of construction processes.

3.     Construction Management:

  • Construction management and innovation
  • Risk and uncertainty
  • Information technologies

4.     Construction Technologies and Systems:

  • Design, modelling and simulation of construction systems
  • Industrialized construction methods
  • Prefabrication, preassembly, modularization, recycling, and construction automation

Requirements: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. (or be currently pursuing studies towards the degree) in related areas. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the School of Engineering, it is important that the applicant is willing to work collaboratively; some international experience is also desirable. Candidates do not need to know Spanish at the time of applying, but should be prepared to learn the language well enough to begin teaching in Spanish in the short term.

Applicants must demonstrate potential for excellence and a strong vocation for all aspects of academic life, be highly motivated to continuously improve their teaching skills, be interested in getting involved with our graduate programs (specially the doctoral program) and be able to develop and maintain an active research agenda (publications, research grants, etc.). The successful candidate will also be expected to create new undergraduate and graduate courses and teach traditional courses in related areas.

  1. Research statement (in Spanish or English) indicating immediate and long term goals for your research plan. Detail potential collaboration networks with other researchers and plans for interactions with scientists in Chile and other countries.
  2. Teaching statement of purpose (in Spanish or English) indicating why you should be considered for the position and your plans for teaching. Be as specific as possible, e.g. giving examples of how you aim to transfer your knowledge to undergraduate and graduate students.
  3. An up-to-date curriculum vitae (in Spanish or English, note B).
  4. Copies of the candidate’s five most recent publications included in Thomson Reuters database (ex ISI), if available. Otherwise, include any articles  considered relevant in the context of the application (see note C ).

Once the complete set of application materials has been received, the applicant will be contacted within two months and informed whether or not his/her application has been accepted for further consideration. If this initial screening is successful, the candidate will be asked to give a lecture on his/her current research topics and attend interviews with selected faculty members, the Dean of the School of Engineering and members of the Selection Committee.
