The research work done for the Master in Engineering Sciences thesis must be carried out individually by the student, in order to measure her\/his ability to perform this type of activity. The Master\u00b4s thesis must have an original quality in the research topic or methodology. The estimated duration of the studies considering complete dedication is four semesters with complete, however, the minimum length of stay stipulated in the program regulations is of only two semesters.<\/p>\n
The student cannot take fewer than 30 or higher than 60 credits per semester. Out of these, a maximum of 50 can be course credits. However, in her\/his last semester, the student shall take a maximum of 90 credits, out of which up to 50 may be in courses.<\/p>\n
Before finalizing her\/his first semester in the Program, the student must submit her\/his academic plan through the Sistema de Informaci\u00f3n y Gesti\u00f3n (SIDING), which is an online platform that registers all the courses and credits that student will take each semester during her\/his stay in the Master\u00b4s program. \u00a0This plan is proposed by the advisor and approved by the Program Director, to prepare and train the student to develop her\/his research topic. If considered necessary for the student to develop her\/his research topic, she\/he may register for Bachelor level courses in complementary areas to the research topic. The Program Director may authorize up to 10 credits in courses at this level only if they have not been previously approved by the student.<\/p>\n

All credits must receive a mark at the end of the semester. Only during the last semester the advisor may grade with an \u201cI\u201d (incompleto<\/em> or incomplete) up to 20 credits associated to the research thesis.<\/p>\nOnly the grades obtained in programmed courses will be considered for the purposes of calculating the grade point average. Credits transferred from courses taken at other institutions are excluded from the calculation. Graduate students cannot remove courses from their academic plan at any point in the semester; only properly justified changes made during the first month of classes of each semester will be accepted.<\/p>\n
Complementary courses<\/strong><\/h3>\nA complementary course is such that a student has not taken in undergraduate school and is a pre-requisite for her\/his program. If considered necessary for her\/his studies, at least 40 credits in leveling complementary courses may be required to those students that hold an academic degree professional degree in a discipline related to engineering. These courses are not to be a part of the student\u00b4s academic plan, and considered as a whole, in any case do they lead to an academic or professional degree.<\/p>\n
