Esta expedici\u00f3n es la tercera de este tipo en los \u00faltimos 10 a\u00f1os, y la segunda para el investigador del \u00e1rea de Geociencias UC, Andr\u00e9s Veloso.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2851\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2851\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ing.uc.cl\/estructural-y-geotecnica\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/3f95f1acf1ad4bc38e27912203700945.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2851 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ing.uc.cl\/estructural-y-geotecnica\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/3f95f1acf1ad4bc38e27912203700945-300x223.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ing.uc.cl\/estructural-y-geotecnica\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/3f95f1acf1ad4bc38e27912203700945-300x223.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ing.uc.cl\/estructural-y-geotecnica\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/3f95f1acf1ad4bc38e27912203700945.png 520w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2851\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Buque de exploraci\u00f3n submarina R\/V Mirai.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\">La expedici\u00f3n tiene por objetivo entender el modo de subducci\u00f3n de la dorsal de Chile y el mecanismo de construcci\u00f3n de corteza continental, fen\u00f3meno com\u00fan en el tiempo geol\u00f3gico con ejemplos en Jap\u00f3n y Estados Unidos. Sin embargo, la Pen\u00ednsula de Taitao y la subducci\u00f3n del Ridge de Chile representan el \u00daNICO ejemplo actual que se dispone a nivel planetario. Tambi\u00e9n se busca entender y determinar las caracter\u00edsticas geoqu\u00edmicas, petrol\u00f3gicas y de flujo de calor derivados de la dorsal de Chile y como est\u00e1s afectan y modifican los productos volc\u00e1nicos e intrusivos en la regi\u00f3n de Ays\u00e9n y en el cono sur de Sudam\u00e9rica, tanto en Chile como en Argentina (Patagonia en general). Esto tiene implicancias en el entendimiento de la nucleaci\u00f3n de terremotos de subducci\u00f3n (como lo fue el terremoto de Valdivia de 1960 que se origin\u00f3 en la Peninsula de Taitao), en el flujo de fluidos (<em>tremors<\/em>) y el intercambio e integraci\u00f3n de material entre la placa oce\u00e1nica y continental. Para esto se instalar\u00e1n en el fondo marino una serie de instrumentos geof\u00edsicos, incluyendo sism\u00f3metros, magnet\u00f3metros y flux\u00f3metros de calor, junto con la toma de muestras por medio de pistones de gravedad, <em>rock-coring<\/em>, <em>multi-coring<\/em> y dragas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En la expedici\u00f3n participar\u00e1n cient\u00edficos chilenos principalmente del Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n Oceanogr\u00e1fica en el Pac\u00edfico Sur-Oriental (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sur-austral.cl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">COPAS<\/a>) de la Universidad de Concepci\u00f3n. Tendr\u00e1n el honor de participar de esta expedici\u00f3n el investigador <strong>Andr\u00e9s Veloso<\/strong> en calidad de investigador del Centro de Excelencia en Geotermia de Los Andes (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cega.ing.uchile.cl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CEGA<\/a>) y de la Pontificia Universidad Cat\u00f3lica, y <strong>Sof\u00eda Lagarrigue<\/strong>, estudiante de Mag\u00edster en Ciencias de la Ingenier\u00eda, del Departamento de Ingenier\u00eda Estructural y Geot\u00e9cnica. &#8220;Es nuestro objetivo el poder contribuir con la generaci\u00f3n de conocimiento de este ejemplo \u00fanico a nivel mundial, en especial en lo que se refiere a flujo de calor y construcci\u00f3n de la corteza continental en Sudam\u00e9rica&#8221; afirma Andr\u00e9s
