All\u00e1, igual que muchas personas, usaba un auto el\u00e9ctrico para movilizarse. Ten\u00eda un BMW i3 y le gust\u00f3 tanto que, cuando regres\u00f3 al pa\u00eds, el 2015, se lo trajo consigo.<\/p>\n<p>El veh\u00edculo a\u00f1o 2014, cuenta con 120 kms. de autonom\u00eda (el modelo actual tiene hasta 300 km y cuesta $37.900.000) y por esta misma raz\u00f3n lo ocupa solo para viajes urbanos. Sin embargo, despu\u00e9s de a\u00f1os de uso y sin que nunca le diera un problema o lo dejara botado por falta de energ\u00eda, decidi\u00f3 ampliar los l\u00edmites y arm\u00f3 un viaje hasta el centro de esqu\u00ed El Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;La distancia entre mi casa (en La Reina) y El Colorado es de 48 kms. por lo que la autonom\u00eda de una carga llena debe3r\u00eda ser suficiente para llegar hasta arriba. Pero hay que considerar que en subida el veh\u00edculo se exige m\u00e1s y consume m\u00e1s energ\u00eda&#8221;, comenta Mike. As\u00ed que, mientras ascend\u00eda, la bater\u00eda se iba acabando a ritmo acelerado.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando lleg\u00f3 al km. 35 de su trayecto, el computador a bordo le indicaba que s\u00f3lo le quedaban 35 kms. de autonom\u00eda. Ese era el punto de &#8220;no retorno&#8221;. Si se alejaba m\u00e1s, podr\u00eda no tener energ\u00eda para volver. &#8220;Por si acaso ten\u00eda un plan B. Mi se\u00f1ora sab\u00eda que si quedaba tirado tendr\u00eda que ir a buscarme&#8221;, cuenta.<\/p>\n<p>En la aventura lo acompa\u00f1aron sus dos hijos peque\u00f1os, con los que iba pendiente del kilometraje avanzado hasta que, finalmente, lo lograron. Pero al llegar al centro de esqu\u00ed la bater\u00eda disponible era de 13 kil\u00f3metros para el retorno.<\/p>\n<p>En El Colorado no hay electrolineras, por lo que la gran duda luego de subir era c\u00f3mo bajar de la cima con solo esos 13 kms. de carga. Sin embargo, Mike decidi\u00f3 intentarlo igual y, para su suerte, lleg\u00f3 a Santiago con las bater\u00eda recargadas casi el 30% y con una autonom\u00eda disponible de 36 kms. a su favor.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfC\u00f3mo fue posible? gracias al freno regenerativo con que cuenta el BMW i3. &#8220;Es una capacidad del motor el\u00e9ctrico de recuperar energ\u00eda cin\u00e9tica y transformarla en energ\u00eda el\u00e9ctrica, que se traduce en mas kil\u00f3metros de autonom\u00eda&#8221;, explica el ingeniero el\u00e9ctrico Javier Pereda, acad\u00e9mico de nuestra Escuela y doctor en ciencias de la ingenier\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;La energ\u00eda cin\u00e9tica es proporcional a la velocidad y, cuando un auto frena, lo que hace es reducir esta energ\u00eda cin\u00e9tica para disminuir la velocidad. En los veh\u00edculos convencionales, esa energ\u00eda se transforma en calor a trav\u00e9s de las pastillas de freno, pero en los veh\u00edculos el\u00e9ctricos se transforma en energ\u00eda el\u00e9ctrica que carga la bater\u00eda&#8221;, detalla.<\/p>\n<p>En el caso de las bajadas, el auto cuenta con un adicional: la energ\u00eda potencial que depende de la altura. &#8220;El veh\u00edculo no requiere realizar un trabajo para bajar por que la energ\u00eda cin\u00e9tica, es decir, en velocidad. Pero en el caso de un auto no queremos bajar a toda velocidad, as\u00ed que descendemos frenando, lo que significa generar energ\u00eda el\u00e9ctrica para las bater\u00edas, en el caso de un auto el\u00e9ctrico, o para eluso de las pastillas de freno en uno a gasolina&#8221;, asegura.<\/p>\n<p>Este principio era conocido por la familia Leatherbee y por eso corrieron el riesgo de bajar, pese a la baja autonom\u00eda. Adem\u00e1s, el paseo les sali\u00f3 muy barato.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Si bien ascendimos aproximadamente 2.000 metros, el viaje fue similar a haber avanzado 96 kms. en plano&#8221;, detalla el profesor. Seg\u00fan sus c\u00e1lculos, el consumo en electricidad de su auto es de $12 por km. recorrido, de modo que el viaje al centro de esqu\u00ed le cost\u00f3 apenas $1,152.-<\/p>\n<p>Fuente Diario Las
