18 Marzo, 2018

Seminarios primer semestre

Niels presentará ” Challenges in last-mile delivery planning for e-grocery”.

Resumen:

Online retail sales continue to grow at a fast pace all around the world. However, despite the potential of the internet as a sales channel, online retailers face many logistical challenges in the fulfillment of online demand. Internet order fulfillment, also called e-fulfillment, is generally considered the most challenging and critical part of the operations of companies selling physical goods online. Handling small individual orders and shipping them to the customers’ homes in a timely and cost-efficient manner has proven difficult. This is especially true for the e-grocery market that is characterized by perishable products and short delivery time windows. In this talk, I will give an overview of current modelling and empirical studies that we are conducting in this area. Our research addresses issues such as the dynamic consolidation of online and traditional transportation flows, the management of the time window availability for attended home delivery and influencing time window choices by the customer.
