Abstract

The impact of Project Delivery Systems (PDS) on construction project performance has been object of research in the construction industry. Recently, new approaches have emerged, such as Lean Project Delivery System (LPDS) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), which require new research efforts to understand how they affect the performance of construction projects. Following a review of the relevant literature it was concluded that there was no effective conceptual framework explaining why one PDS gives better outcomes than another, especially when comparing traditional approaches to new ones. The purpose of this paper is to propose a conceptual modeling framework that describes the interactions between the factors of project delivery and supply chain relationships, and their impact on project performance. This conceptual modeling framework should provide bases for understanding how project delivery approaches affect the behavior of different parties in the development of construction projects.
