Bus Rapid Transit in permanent evolution

Abstract

This paper shows how BRT has evolved from simple bus priority measures to an integrated systems approach for enhanced service provision. We show how cost efficient solutions have been continuously designed to improve the level of service, including some emblematic breakthroughs in BRT evolution in cities like Curitiba, Bogota, Istanbul and Guangzhou. We also present new research and development activities that will continue to shape BRT evolution in the coming years.
