Understanding VDC/BIM Implementation Strategies

Abstract

Many AEC companies are starting to implement VDC/BIM but without a clear understanding of the impacts that a particular implementation strategy will have in the implementation outcomes. We are conducting research to identify this relationship through a benchmarking instrument that will help AEC companies select the best strategies to implement VDC/BIM given a particular context (i.e., company, project and implementation characteristics). This article describes the results of the preliminary phase of this research, documenting the methodology and results of a survey that collected an initial set of success factors, drivers, obstacles, outcomes, and performance metrics of VDC/BIM implementations.
