National Research Center for the Comprehensive Management of Natural Disasters (CIGIDEN, Spanish acronym)

This CONICYT Center of Excellence is led by Professor Rodrigo Cienfuegos in collaboration with the Universidad Católica del Norte, the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, and the Universidad Andrés Bello. This center is comprised of world-class researchers seeking to understand, anticipate, and mitigate the possible consequences of disasters by applying a multi-threat and systemic approach.

Center for Sustainable Urban Development (CEDEUS, Spanish acronym)

Professor Juan Carlos Muños is the leader of this CONICYT FONDAP Center, which is affiliated with the Universidad de Concepción and the Center for Sustainable Urban Development of the University of Columbia (USA). This Center aims to understand the dynamics, instruments, and processes underlying decision making so as to implement fair, sustainable improvements in general quality of living.

LIFE: Linked Institutions for Future Earth

With the objective of establishing an international network of researchers and institutions dedicated to understanding and predicting the evolution of the earth’s surface to natural and anthropic changes, the National Science Foundation (NSF) funded the creation of this Center, which includes Professor Cristian Escauriaza as a member.
